Banksy

Banksy was my second choice for my art inquiry. He is an anonymous graffiti artist who's work shows up mostly in England but also in other places around the world. I chose him because of his political art works and the mystery that surrounds him. He does such cool work and it inspired me to do my own Bansky prints. I found out the names of some of his simpler works, e.g balloon girl and then searched on the internet "balloon girl stencil".  Next I printed it out on about 12 peices of a4 paper. The next step was to stick it to cardboard and cut it out. Wow cutting it out is tricky! It took ages to do it with the craft knife, and that was the fastest way. It was worth though because once I had the cardboard cut out all I had to do was spraypaint over the top of it. The paper underneath was left with a cool design once I took the cardboard off. It was hard but it was definately worth the trouble. I learnt lots about stenciling and the techniques that Banksy uses!

  1. Kia ora Quinn,
When I saw your art in the class I thought it was a purchased print. When you told me you had made it yourself I was amazed. The way you have worked out the process to make your print shows your problem solving ability. Where are you going to hang your prints at home? I would definitely have it hanging in my living room for everyone to see.

    1. Morena Mrs Burt,
Thank you for your king feedback. As for your question "what next" I have inspired my Dad and he has a couple of ideas that he wants to do with me. Mum was very happy and she has got places in our house for them. I want to redo the monkey one though, because I think now that I have learnt more I could do it a bit better.

  4. Kia ora Quinn,
My name is Tania and I am a Manaiakalani Facilitator, I live in Whangarei. Mrs Torrie shared your blogpost and I just had to leave a comment. Your Banksy artwork is INCREDIBLE. I also find Bansky an inspirational grafitti artist and really like his prints. It was great to read about the process you went through to create your prints. They look really good framed. Like Mrs Torrie and Dorothy have said, your whānau will love your prints to and I am sure they will take pride of place on the wall. If not, maybe you can sell them to me :-)

    2. Mōrena Quinn,
I am not an artist so haven't any of my own art to share but I do love to collect art, especially from New Zealand artists - I especially like to collect Tiki art. I got two new pieces for my last birthday by Lester Hall Let me know what you think of his art.
